BARRY WICKS’ DROP BAR TRIBUTE TO THE KAMIKAZE

Like many riders that have been on the bike for a few decades, Barry Wicks grew up watching old-school mountain bike videos. One of his particular favorites was Tread. It was raw, fast, and embodied everything he wanted the sport to be. Barry wanted to recreate the energy that the original Tread brought (with coverage of the 1993 Mammoth Mountain  Kamikaze race), so he set out in central Oregon aboard his custom Kona Sutra Ltd to get rowdy on some steep gravel roads. Skids, drifts—you name it. It’s here.

Mammoth Kamikaze? Drop bars? This is actually what it was all about back in 1986.

KONA SUTRA LTD

Kona’s steel Sutra Ltd is available in six sizes with a dropper post, meaty  2.25″ Maxxis Rekon Race EXO  tires and  a SRAM Rival 1x drivetrain for $2699.
