Wout van Aert solo’d into Calais to win stage four of the 2022 Tour de France. Van Aert’s Jumbo Visma squad launched a premeditated attack on the final climb of the day with just over 6 miles to go. From there Van Aert catapulted himself over 20 seconds up the road and held off the chasing sprinters as he increased his lead in the overall classification. It’s Van Aert’s first stage win of the race after three consecutive second place finishes. Jasper Philipsen finished second with Christophe Laporte in third. Philipsen mistakenly celebrated the second place but was kindly reminded by third place Laporte that Laporte’s Jumbo Visma teammate had already taken the stage win.

Wednesday’s stage 5 is a 97 mile rider over cobbles from Lille to Wallers-Arenberg.
