Tom Pidcock won stage 12 of the 2022 Tour de France after bridging to the breakaway on the descent off the Col du Galibier then escaping on the final climb of the day up Alpe d’Huez. Pidcock solo’d the final 5 miles of the climb beating Louis Meintjes by 48 seconds with Chris Froome in third at 2:06.

“That was certainly one of my best experiences… slaloming through flags, fists and whatever else, is an experience you can only have in cycling.” Pidcock said after the stage.

Tadej Pogacar was unable to make up time in the overall, he finished fifth with Jonas Vingegaard and Geraint Thomas on his wheel 3:36 behind Pidcock. Vingegaard still leads Pogacar by 2:22 with Thomas in third overall at 2:26.

Friday’s stage 13 is 120 miles of hilly roads between Bourg d’Oisans and Saint Etienne.
