Hugo Houle won stage 16 of the 2022 Tour de France with a solo attack on the final climb of the day. Houle launched out of the breakaway on the Mur de Peguere, 12 miles from the finish. He pulled upwards of a minute on the chase of Matteo Jorgensen and Michael Woods. Valentin Maduas was paced up to the chasing duo in the final meters and sprinted to second ahead of Woods 1:10 behind Houle, with Jorgensen in fourth.

Jonas Vingegaard held on to his overall lead 2:22 ahead of two-time defending champion Tadej Pogacar. Pogacar attempted to make up time throughout the stage but Vingegaard kept the Slovenian in check.

Stage 17 takes riders back into the mountains from Saint Gaudens to Peyragudes.
