THROWBACK THURSDAY, 2019: UP CLOSE WITH THE WORLD TOUR TEAM BIKES

With the WorldTour season charging ahead at full speed, many teams are sporting new rigs for 2019. Here’s a look at the best road bikes we saw Down Under.  Photos: Bettini

 EF EDUCATION FIRST

A 2019 Cannondale System Six with a sweet tie-dye streak, equipped with a Vision Tech Metron 5D one piece cockpit and Metron 55 tubular disc wheels. The team is running Dura Ace Di2 components with FSA chainrings.  

JUMBO VISMA

Bianchi’s top of the line aero bike, the Oltre XR4, keeps the Dutch team rolling. The team is sponsored by Shimano with almost all of their components coming from the company.

ASTANA

The Kazakhstan state-sponsored team is rolling around on an Argon 18 frame with Corima wheels, Shimano Di2 Components and FSA pieces.

SUNWEB

Formerly riding Giant bicycles, Sunweb is now sponsored by Cervelo. The team’s new top-tier S5 features a unique front-end, with an external steerer tube and a v-shaped fork that lets the air flow, Sunweb is riding one of the most aerodynamically advanced bikes in the peloton.

BAHRAIN MERIDA

The state-sponsored team is riding the best Merida has to offer, the Reacto disc. Bahrain Merida is rolling on Fulcrum Speed 55 tubulars, they’re also using Shimano Di2 components, however they have SRM power meter cranks to collect their numbers.

MOVISTAR

Riding Canyon’s Ultimate CF SLX, the Spanish team is bolstered with the current World Champion and has been on the podium multiple while sponsored by Canyon. Movistar is one of the few WorldTour teams sponsored by Campagnolo, a Super Record EPS drivetrain with a Power2Max power meter keeps the team competitive.

LOTTO SOUDAL

Founded in 1985, the Belgian team is sponsored by the Belgian Ridley Bikes. Riding the aero Ridley Noah Fast SL, the team is set up with  Campagnolo Super Record EPS. They are one of the remaining rim brake holdouts in the pro peloton.

GROUPAMA FDJ

French team, French bike. FDJ’s Lapierre sponsorship includes this Xelius SL 700 frame. FDJ is sponsored by Shimano as well with Pro parts and a Shimano Dura Ace Di2 drivetrain.

BORA HANSGROHE

Bringing aluminum back to the WorldTour, Specialized had Bora Hansgrohe ride their Allez Sprint as well as their carbon compatriot Venge at the Tour Down Under. The only aluminum frame in the peloton rolls on Roval CLX 64 disc wheels and a full Shimano Dura Ace Di2 drivetrain.
